Here's the pictures from Dragon's Lair Yule. I'm really happy with how my hair turned out and feel like it's fairly close to the portraits. I'll have to later look up and post a reference portrait as well.

I should have taken off the site token (on blue yarn) and my hand sewing sissors (on the silver chain) before having the picture taken. My cleavage looks cluttered. :P Ah, well I really just wanted pictures of the hair, anyway.

pick away! :)

re: glasses... it will be interesting as I get more and more blind how I deal with "medieval old lady eyesight" at events...

We could get period frames if we were really that serious about authenticity, but I'm not. Those things are ugly and awkward-looking.

In any case, we have Romans, Saxons, Vikings, carribean pirates and Scottish Highlanders all camping together. How authentic is that?

ah, but you see, in my perfect world there arent all those cultures camping together....

someday everyone else will realise the error of their ways and come to the 15th century burgundians. its just a matter of time, you know...

;)

maybe its my lack of glasses, but I can blur my eyes about people doing other cultures WELL more than I can blur my eyes about people doing anything in half measures.

and please know that I am fully aware that there is nothinga bout the sca that insists on the level of authenticity that i insist upon for myself. I am fortunate that in AnTir folks look at me and my no glasses geekiness and smile tolerantly :)

I can relate, only for me everyone would be in late 1500's Venetian. If any of my friends (especially female friends) are waffling about what style to try I always say Ventian! Everyone should be Venetian! :)

I'd like to loose the glasses at events but I'm so very nearsighted that I have a tendancy to run into things (and people). Not exactly the graceful swan I'd like to project. I think I need to try contacts again.

I'd be happy to be your spotter if you decide to give it a shot (12th night, maybe?)

part of it is just giving up and letting your eyes go blurry. when you know what your limits are, you tend to move a bit slower and more carefully and you begin to recognise things/people as various colored blurry lumps, etc :)

me, I'm actually pretty farsighted, so it jsut looks like I'm pissed off when I'm trying to get a bead on someone... and of course, I cant read for crap without my glasses, so I tend to have them stashed if someone insists I read something modern at an event (like music, unfortuantley...)

[livejournal.com profile] apollo_f1 keeps trying to dare me to wear my glasses at an event. he hasnt come up with any bribe big enough... ;)

Sure, if you're willing to help keep me from literally running into things I'm willing to go glassless.

I think I may need to wait until after the ball though. while directing people, I should probably be sighted. On Saturday though, I'm game. Especially if I decide to go out for novice costuming guild, it might be better not to be able to see my audience.

I feel that achieving the overall feeling of periodness for one's perona while having fun is more important than niggling over every detail. Personally, I just do the best I can. (Luckily, not many people know what a White Hord Turk from the Samarkand area is supposed to look like or wear.) In our "middle ages as they should have been", Vikings, pirates, Roman legionnaires, Venetians and even Burgundians all get along and are pretty nice people. :)

I wear glasses too. I feel that they're a prescription and, like prescription medications, no one can deny you them. I'd rather not have to wear them, but then I don't fancy sitting in brasier smoke until 3AM (and balancing empty Tupperware containers on sleeper's heads) with contacts in either. It makes it too hard to focus the camera. :)

one of the strengths of the sca, especially in antir, I think is that theres plenty of room for all philosophies :)

and since I'm not wearing my glasses, I hardly notice that you're wearing yours! ;)

I dont look at it as "niggling" over the details. I see it as a detailed and rich and deep portrayal that adds to my own enjoyment of the game. and since its all about me, there you go ;)
