Quick update before I drag my tired bottom to bed

This may look like a brick of cheese, but it's much, much harder. I didn't cut it so much as hack at it:

I initially was going to melt it in the disposible pie tin I wound up hacking it to pieces in. I'm glad I realized that I'd need it in a much smaller space so I could dip the bottles deep enough to coat not only the corks, but the strings for the tags as well (as this serves to help them stay in place as well as seal the corks).

Dipping the bottle:

Finished bottles!

Thank you! I still have to finish a few details on the booklets that will go with them, then print and bind them. :)

They are adorably wee- I think I need to get a new source though. I totally cleaned out Artco and they said they may not get any more. Elizabeth sent me link once upon a time and I can't find where I saved it, and Carmen says she has a source too.

Those spice bottles are wonderful. I'm sure people will be thrilled to get them.
I am wondering if you are still interested in the little maiolica jars I make, or if they are too large for your purposes?

I think those would be lovely, especially for more special gifts or specific people. I'd just need to find corks or other stoppers that fit them.

I'm doing a full set of 3 spices for all 19 kingdoms for Pennsic, so while I LOVE the maiolica jars, I'm not sure if it would work to do it for this- what do you think? Want to work together on next year's Pennsic batch? I'd be happy to provide the spice mixes and booklets if you want to do the jars. ;)

From what I have discovered, they were sealed (or at least kept closed) with a piece of waxed linen tied on with linen thread. Do you think that would be sufficient?
Sounds like fun. I could make some smaller jars so it wouldn't be so costly for you to fill with spices.

Oooh! I've worked with that stuff before, only on bigger jars, it's like period saran wrap! That would work, but I'd be a little worried about how well it would travel. I wonder if I could or should still use sealing wax on it, as that's waaay less flexible than the bees wax used on the linen, but might help it travel better. Hmm, Why don't I see if I can get you some waxes linen rounds and we can do some testing?

Oops, I was in error, it was actually waxed parchment that was used on the maiolica jars, but we thought waxed linen would be an very good substitute.

But yes, lets do some testing.

I don't know about the traveling either, what about a little box that fits exactly the jar and tie it together, then the Retinue in charge of largesse removing it from the box before presentation? More work for the Retinue, which I hesitate to cause, but better packing/less chance of breaking during transport. The boxes could just be a roll of cardboard around the jars with ends cut to size.
Brainstorming ideas, just thinkin'

Those are SO cool hon!

Thanks for the chat last night - I hope I didn't dominate the conversion too much and that you were happy with our end plan of action

Thank you! < blush>

You didn't dominate at all. I really enjoyed our conversation. I think there may be some feathers ruffled and curfuffles curfuffed, but that's often unavoidable when change is nessisary- and I think we've reached a point where things have to change.
