raffaellasworld: (Rockin' silent bob)
Friday night - field trip for project night was very productive, I think. The young lady I will be helping is still super-shiny brand new to the society (her first SCA event ever was Kingdom Bardic, which her beau won). So we talked about fabrics, what's historically accurate, and what _she_ wants to do. It sounds like for now she's going to start out with a cote, and a sideless for more formal feast, and whatnot. I hadn't realized that they actually need me to sew it as well, and before a feast they're attending together on Dec. 8th. Eeeek. I can do this, but this means that she will have to come over week nights and what ever weekend morning she can before work. We need to get bustin' on the patterns.

Saturday- got up as early as I could and still got there later than I planned, sometimes that's part of taking the ferry. I also got confused in Kingston and wound up driving back and forth a couple of times before figuring out that I needed to go further. Feh. Once I got to the dragons lair A&S it was fabulous! Great people, and I got some work done re-drafting the bodice pattern for my 12th night Venetian. I really need to make myself a ducttape body double because I'm really at the point where I either need it, or a fitting buddy and I'm running out of time. After that I went over for dinner and chatting with a gaggle of dragonites and Maestro Giuseppe and her adorable munckin and 2 little bundles of endless doggie energy. Managed to get my bottom back on the second to the last ferry home.

Sunday- got up early again for plotting for B's elevation at 12th night. I think the plan is well in place. I also found out that I don't need to worry about food for both nights. I will be handling food for Friday night, and Saturday will be leftovers (if there are any) in addition to a chocolate fountain and whatever fun canadian munchie foods they put together.
Reminders for me:
9PM Friday- food for vigil set up, vigil starting.
Bring bench

Food will be:
Hummas & pita (b's favorite, maybe a selection of a few)
Stuffed eggs
thinly sliced spicy roast beef
small rolls, or sliced baguette
a selection of cheeses, some sliced some soft- whatever looks good(must ask Alienora if any of hers will be available)
Bowl of mustard
Pickled asperagus
Pickled mushrooms
olives
sliced apples, &/or other fruit
a selection of whatever little period tarts, cakes or cookies I can make in finger-food sizes.

After the meeting once I finally got my butt back in gear at home, I managed to get the skirt panels sewn together for my new 12th night gown, now I just need to better fit the bodice, and figure out what to do with the sleeves. I found the rest of the green linen for lining, so the dress will be completely lined. I even managed to wash and dry it so next time I've got some time I will be good to go.

So much more still to do. I'm hoping I can get the pewter widgets done. I'm going to try to track down Wilhelm again and see what he thinks.

Happily snagged and passed on from my dearest Mort.

Ok, so it isnt even Thanksgiving yet, i know, i know.

Child's Play http://www.penny-arcade.com/childsplaycharity/ is up an running though and has been since Nov 1.

If you aren't familiar this is a charity set up by the gamer-geek authors of Penny Arcade cuz they were sick of hearing about what miserable, antisocial, insert negative adjective here people gamers were. Cuz you know we're all on the edge of killing people because we play video games with violence. yup.

So they decided to DO something. And have they ever succeeded! Since 2003 over TWO MILLION dollars in toys and donations have gone to kids in Children's Hospitals around the world because of Child's Play.

Our local Children's Hospital here in Seattle is the original recipient but as the organization has grown they've set up wishlists for hospitals in 5 foreign countries and the majority of US states. Children's Hospital in Seattle will treat any child regardless of a family's ability to pay. That in and of itself is amazing in this day and age. Child's Play helps the kids in Children's have at least a little bit of childhood in the midst of living with often life-threatening health problems.

I care about this organization and if you haven't made plans for charitable holiday giving and plan to do so, I urge you to check it out. Plus, you get to shop for toys, books or games!

Every year I try to find a worthwhile, well-run cause and do what I can. I think this is a winner. This sounds great and is something I can totally get behind. I may even send on the information to some of my doctors who work both at the UW and children's.
