Gratitude list
May. 5th, 2005 10:59 pmI've been thinking about this a lot since I started working in the nursing field. I hope I never lose this perspective.
I'm grateful for my health and self sufficiency. I've never been so acutely aware of it.
There have been countless time when I've actually stopped to realize just how grateful I am that I can:
feed myself
use the toilet with out assistance, and that once I'm done I'm capable of wiping my own ass
get up and go some where with out waiting for someone to physically move me
entertain myself
read what I want when I want
enjoy my own home, especially my privacy and personal belongings that bring me joy (my library and vibrator mostly) :)
I know most of these may seem simple, or trite, but after seeing countless other people who are no longer able to enjoy these basic I cherish every one of them.
I've also found that this makes me more aware of the dignity of those I take care of. If I see a call light, or someone who is in need of assistance who may not be able to communicate that need, I always try to treat them as I would like to be treated if the situation were reversed.
